Mesopuncture background

3 stages have been distinguished:

1st stage

The 1st stage is found in the "Essentials of Chinese Acupuncture" in the chapter: "Therapy by injection in the acupuncture points" where the concept of positive reaction acupuncture points appears:

"A drug is injected into a positive reaction acupuncture point".

How to detect the points of positive reaction

Use thumb and index finger to either slide along, massage, press or depress the skin.
A point is considered to react positively if there are nodules and cords, hypersensitive and painful points when pressed, a thickening, a musculo-cutaneous depression, or a change in skin colouring.

                 Selected points

The group of points on both sides of the spinal column, Back- Shu and Front-Mu points, points on the four limbs corresponding to the ailment to be treated, as well as the ASHI points.

If the positive reaction is not very clear the points on the corresponding meridian lines should be chosen.

The hand and foot points where there are very few soft parts are not frequently used.

                 Products injected

  • Vitamin B1, B12, C.
  • Drugs combating the list of ailments like penicillin.
  • Distilled water: the injection must be fast because the feeling induced by acupuncture is fleeting.
  • Physiological salt solution.

                 Volume injected

This is important: it is the complete contents of an ampule of injectable drug.

The number of injections: There has only ever been one injection in one point.

                 Treated affections

  • Chronic hepatitis,
  • nephritis,
  • gastric ulcer,
  • allergic reaction,
  • neurosis,
  • gynaecological ailments,
  • chronic affections,
  • old people and asthenics,
  • illnesses with hemorrhagic tendency.

2nd stage

The second stage is the article by CARTEAU AND LAMORTE, with the title "Technic of Chimiopuncture " published in 1979.

It comes closer to the current processes.

2-3 points are injected.

7-10 consultations are necessary

The products injected, in the majority of cases, contain lidocaïne.

We used most of the points indexed in their article as a basis, developed obviously, to treat whatever may present itself and to start compiling our lexicon.

3rd stage

In 1983, Editions Maloine published, a book entitled: "A new art to cure, Mesopuncture" by Dr. Maurice RUBEN. It gave a broad outline of modern mesopuncture and related physio-pathological explanation:

The selected points are:
The points that are active for the affection. Generally there are 4.

The treated affections are:
Digestive, metabolic, respiratory, cardiologic, venous, dermatological, rhumatologic, gynaecological, urologic, psychiatric

The products injected are:
Chophytol, Trace elements: manganese-cobalt, zinc nickel cobalt; meprobamate, Heptaminol, lidocaïne, Physiological salt solution, etc.

The consultation schedule is:
weekly or twice-weekly.

The number of consultations is:
8 to 10.

Volume injected has evolved: 0.3ml.

... A long phase of withdrawal followed, to eventually give way to Mesopuncture as we know it today.

Mesopuncture nowadays

The practice of injecting a drug in an acupuncture point unquestionably originated in China but was often limited to one point only. This point supported a single and inappropriate dose of drug from a loaded syringe.

The scientific research carried out on locally-injected micro doses initially brought about an efflorescence in mesotherapy, while still performed with a loaded syringe.

. Profoundly enhanced by this scientific progress and armed with a multi-functional tool (the BMN) mesopuncture came to be and is constantly being developed, broadening the scope or range of applications for the local multi-injection method in medical pathology.
